WNK bodies are large distinct foci which form in the distal convoluted tubule (DCT) as the result of potassium imbalance. WNK body formation is dependent on kidney-specific WNK1 (KS-WNK1), a truncated kinase-defective WNK1 isoform that is strongly expressed in the DCT (29237822).
